World Urban Games

The World Urban Games (WUG) is the ultimate celebration of new-generation sports forged by the spirit of youth. It is a showcase for the skill, style and power of the most inspirational urban athletes on the planet. The World Urban Games comprises a wide-ranging programme of competitive and showcase urban sports complimented by a Festival of youth-focused music, art and culture.

The first edition of the World Urban Games took place in Budapest, Hungary.

The spirit of Urban Games is the spirit of the age; No compromise on the pursuit of perfection, Creativity in performance, Engagement with audiences and Involvement through the opportunity to experience the various sports, Respect for fellow competitors, and followers, Global Connectivity through digital technology, love of the Lifestyle and care for the Environment.

THE SPORTS PROGRAMME

The World Urban Games Sports Programme consist of competition events, showcase events, and amateur and initiation sessions where the public and the youth can participate.

Two showcase were also present at the 2019 edition of the World Urban Games.

The aim of such a programme is to promote sports/disciplines which are innovative and appealing to the youth and local population but have not yet reached the required level of maturation to be part of the Competition programme. In collaboration with GAISF, the respective IFs and the NFs, the LOC developed a concept to display the Showcase events in a fun and engaging way.

Anti Doping at the WUG

GAISF is strongly committed to the fight against doping in sport.
As a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code in its role as Major Event Organiser, GAISF has its own Anti-Doping Rules which apply at the multi-sports games

Athlete agreement

Athletes are required to sign an agreement when they will collect their accreditation.

Tests

In accordance with the GAISF Anti-Doping Rules, GAISF determined the number of tests and target tests to be performed in accordance with the criteria established by the International Standard for Testing and Investigations.

Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)

GAISF is also responsible for the management of the TUE in connection with the Event.

Athletes may have conditions that require them to take particular medications. If this medications contain products that are listed in the Prohibited list, the athlete must apply for a therapeutic use exemption (TUE).

  1. Athletes who wish to use a Prohibited Substance or a Prohibited Method in connection with a Multi-Sport Games and do not already have a TUE must apply to GAISF using the TUE Form
  2. Athletes that already have a TUE granted by their National Anti-Doping Organization or International Federation should apply to GAISF for recognition of their TUE.

Anti-doping education

At each of its Multi-Sports Games, GAISF shall plan, implement, evaluate and monitor information, education and prevention programs for doping-free sport and shall support active participation by Athletes and Athlete Support Personnel in such programs.

For the World Urban Games held in Budapest in September 2019 GAISF cooperated with the Hungarian Anti-Doping Agency (HUNADO) and staged an outreach program which took place at the Event venue for the entire duration of the Games.

In connection with the Education Program, Athletes and Athletes Support Personnel had the opportunity to:

  • visit the education stand and receive information on various topics (WADA Prohibited List will be available)
  • receive a comprehensive presentation on the negative effects of doping, on the risk of consumption of uncontrolled food supplements and other aspects of the danger of doping,
  • see a demonstration of the sampling procedure where doping control equipment will also be displayed,
  • complete the WADA play true quiz in Hungarian, English and 5 other languages (French, German, Spanish, Russian and Chinese), participants will also be rewarded with symbolic Anti-Doping/HUNADO gifts like balloons, balls, pens, caps, toys etc
