season’s greetings from gaisf
On behalf of the entire team at GAISF, I would like to extend season’s greetings to all our Members, partners and stakeholders.
Over the course of 2019, we have seen numerous sporting competitions that have kept us on the edge of our seats. Around the world, International Federations have created the stage for athletes to shine.
At GAISF, we celebrated the success of the first World Urban Games in Budapest, which attracted more than 50,000 spectators through the gates, not only to enjoy world class sport but to try out new activities and become immersed in the authentic urban culture.
As part of GAISF’s commitment to creating multi-sport events for its Members, it was my pleasure to announce that the World Combat Games will be re-launched in 2021, hosted by the city of Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. A country with a deep passion for martial arts, this is sure to be another very exciting event.
GAISF also shared the results of its Good Governance Survey with Members, and launched its first Sustainability Award, the results of which will be announced at the GAISF General Assembly in April next year.
The GAISF Memorandum of Understanding with the International Testing Agency was another landmark moment for our Members, and I am sure this will be another important step for sport in the protection of clean sport.
SportAccord launched Regional SportAccord Pan America in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month. Alongside SportAccord 2019 in Gold Coast and IF Forum in Lausanne, we are driving the agenda based on the subjects that matter to sports organisations.
As the United Voice of all Sports, our aim is always to support, protect and promote our Members, and I have no doubt that we will continue to do this in 2020.
Sport never fails to leave us wanting more and, with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games just around the corner, I have no doubt that next year will be another exciting time for us all. Many GAISF Members will be involved, not only in the Olympic Games, but also the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games, as well as World Championships, World Cups and Grand Prix’s taking place all over the world.
I wish you all a restful period and look forward to working with you in 2020.
Yours in sport,
Raffaele Chiulli
GAISF President
