The Association of Pan American Sports Confederations (ACODEPA) was born on on May 1 st , 1992 at the initiative of Mr. Mario Vásquez Raña (RIP), in his time as President of the Pan American Sports Organization (ODEPA), now called Panam Sports, who invited the Presidents of the Pan American Sports Confederations to the “1st Convention for Pan American Olympic Sports”, together with the Presidents of the Olympic Committees of America.

ACODEPA is an international organization recognized by the Pan American Sports Organization (Panam Sports) and it is constituted by the Pan American Sports Confederations or Continental Sports Organizations recognized by their respective International Federation, which must also have the recognition of the International Olympic Committee.
