GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli: Sport is moving closer to an exciting new chapter
GAISF and SportAccord President Raffaele Chiulli addressed a letter to GAISF’s Members, praising their efforts to host international competitions and move sport forward and closer to an exciting new chapter despite challenging circumstances.
“Please let me begin by thanking all GAISF Members for your continued positive reaction to adversity and numerous challenges at the beginning of 2021,” said President Chiulli.
“Despite so many hurdles, and with so many still facing very challenging circumstances, the rollout of vaccines around the world does bring us closer to an exciting new chapter for sport. And despite the challenges, the growing number of international competitions that are taking place safely and successfully gives us great reason for shared optimism.
“It is encouraging to see the continued efforts of our community to support athletes, entertain fans worldwide and promote sport to wider audiences by turning to the digital universe with creative and innovative ideas. Clearly, the good ideas adopted during the pandemic are here to stay.”
President Chiulli also expressed his commitment to ensuring that the SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit 2021, which is now scheduled for 7-12 November in Ekaterinburg, Russia, is a game-changing gathering which will signal a major step forward in the recovery of sport and society. In addition, it was noted that SportAccord’s annual International Federation (IF) Forum will be held on 25 May 2021 and staged in a fully virtual format.
The ongoing work of GAISF in the key field of sustainability was also highlighted by the President. This included the recent announcement of a partnership between GAISF and sportanddev. This partnership will help to amplify the importance of sustainability in sport through the cross-promotion of content and resources on sportanddev and sustainability.sport, and follows the success of GAISF’s sustainability portal.
The growth of the .sport family was also highlighted, with World Archery, the International Bowling Federation and World Flying Disc Federation becoming the latest Members to sign up for a .sport internet domain. They join over 1,000 organisations to have registered a domain since the launch of the .sport initiative in September 2018.
