GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli today delivered a passionate speech to delegates at the 2019 Russia – Country of Sports International Forum, where he discussed the role of GAISF and SportAccord in developing opportunities for sports participation around the world.
During the Forum, which was held in the Nizhny Novgorod Region and attended by Russia President Vladimir Putin, President Chiulli also took part in a panel discussion exploring the opportunities of bringing sports events to the country.
In the Plenary Session, which was moderated by Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, President Chiulli’s speech focused on the power of sport in delivering positive change in society. The GAISF leader referenced the success of previous events as prime examples of the physical and mental benefits sport can bring.
Just last month, GAISF staged the inaugural World Urban Games in Budapest, and President Chiulli highlighted the unique vision of the games to allow attendees to both watch and try out new sports, as well as incorporating urban music, art and culture.
President Chiulli also talked his role as President of SportAccord and the importance of bringing countries, cities, sponsors, media, international federations, athletes and sports together to share methods of best practice that help to facilitate the global development of sport.
“There is no doubt that the last thirty years have been very successful for sport,” President Chiulli said. “We have seen the television networks and sponsors place a great value on our ability to capture the attention of big audiences and there is great satisfaction in being part of a passionate group supporting the same team.
“But for sport and its institutions to be sustainable, we must continue to do everything we can to have not just spectators but active participants. And as you continue this debate, as you continue to focus on ensuring that Russia remains this great country of sport, I will be very happy to contribute in any way I can.”
As well as President Putin, many heads of federal and regional government bodies attended the Forum. In addition, leaders of world sport, representatives of the Olympic movement and international federations also contributed.
After the Forum, President Chiulli was among an exclusive group of international sports executives invited to meet with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to discuss about how to shape the future of sport.
