FEI report underlines sustainability commitment
The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) has published its Annual Report for 2019, featuring a comprehensive summary of the important decisions taken to ensure maximum progress for the sport, its athletes and the global equestrian community.
Released this week, the FEI Annual Report 2019 reflects the International Federation’s impressive efforts and commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability, an area GAISF and its Members recognise as a priority in order to protect the present and long-term future of our planet.
GAISF Director Philippe Gueisbuhler said:
“Enhancing environmental, social and economic sustainability remains a key priority for GAISF and our Members. This was demonstrated again recently through the launch of our sustainability.sport platform. I would therefore like to congratulate the FEI for the fantastic work it is doing both on and off the field, inspiring others from inside and outside of the sports community to help the world build a more sustainable future.”
The report provides a summary of the proactive initiatives that the FEI is taking to further cement its commitment to fans and the equestrian community, including:
- The FEI became a signatory to the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework in Lausanne (SUI) in May 2019, sending a strong signal to the sporting community of its commitment to introduce sustainable carbon reduction measures, not just at events worldwide, but also in Headquarters (HQ) operations.
- In October 2019, the FEI, along with nine other International Federations, was presented the IOC-Dow Carbon Award, an initiative aimed at boosting the Olympic Movement’s efforts to help accelerate climate action. As part of the award, the FEI received carbon offsets based on the information that was provided on the organisation’s annual carbon footprint, as well as its carbon reduction plans.
The report also distils the ongoing work that the FEI is doing with regards to good governance and transparency to ensure best practice at all levels, another key area which GAISF is supporting its Members to ensure the successful continuation of global sport.
