fEi annual Report an examPle of Good governanCe in practIce
The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) has published its Annual Report for 2018, providing a comprehensive recap on all the key sporting moments and the main decisions, as well as detailed facts and figures.
The importance of good governance and transparency in sport is a key factor in developing trust between International Federations (IFs) and their athletes, stakeholders and fans. Ensuring that sport is governed effectively, transparently and in the best interests of all participants is key to winning and maintaining the trust of all within the sports family and the wider community.
One of GAISF’s priorities is to support IFs in their governance management, taking into account the various resources each IF has at its disposal. In 2016, the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF) distributed a questionnaire to its member federations, to assess and establish a baseline of good governance indicators.
In November 2018, GAISF expanded the questionnaire to include Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF) and Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) members.
GAISF then announced the results of its survey to Members at the General Assembly in Gold Coast, with each IF receiving tailored feedback to help it develop good governance strategies for the coming year.
GAISF Director Philippe Gueisbuhler said:
“The mission of GAISF is to serve, represent, promote and protect the common interests of our Members and to help them achieve their global objectives, and we believe that it all starts with good governance.
“Whether an International Federation has one member of staff, or more than ten, there are always steps that can be taken to improve governance. I would like to congratulate the FEI on its report and encourage other IFs to follow in this best practice.”
The FEI report distils the key information by discipline, nation/region, athlete/horse, as well as information related to the FEI Solidarity programme. The full financial report and statistical trends are also highlighted throughout the online FEI Annual Report with downloadable documents, allowing stakeholders and the public to find the statistics that interest them.
The report also contains video content from all the major sporting events, as well as features on the FEI Award winners from 2018.
