CSIT has its roots in the Workers’ Sport Movement, founded in Ghent/Belgium on May 10th, 1913. After both World Wars CSIT was re-established, first in Luzern/Switzerland (September 14th, 1920) and second in Brussels/Belgium (May 30th, 1946) with the name “Comité Sportif International du Travail”. Since 1973 CSIT is member of GAISF and was recognized by the IOC October 31st, 1986. 2011 the Congress in Rio de Janeiro decided to open the CSIT to all amateur sportspeople. Since then the name of the CSIT is “International Workers and Amateurs in Sports Confederation / Confédération Sportive Internationale Travailliste et Amateur”. In 2013 CSIT celebrated its 100th Anniversary in Brussels and Ghent/Belgium. Nowadays CSIT is one of the biggest Sport for All (Grassroots Sport) Confederations with almost 230 Million members worldwide. Every 2 years the CSIT World Sports Games take place, a multi-sports major event for amateurs with several thousand participants.
